However, those who work in the travel industry need to be very knowledgeable about geography all over the world. Some travel agents may work in specific locations, while others specialize in specific countries, and still others on a global scale.
The goal of this Travel Agent Geography course is to teach students about where places are in the world. This may seem like a simple task, but the more complex part of this knowledge concerns understanding how to match clients to their perfect destination. While this course teaches information from the travel industry perspective, this class may be beneficial for all travel professionals, not just travel agents.
While in this course, students will learn about topics such as topological facts, climate, lodging, attractions, and cultural patterns in various locations. Students will study hypothetical itineraries and typical visitors profiles for particular destinations. This course will explore New England to Asia and the Pacific Potpourri.
Business management and marketing skills and knowledge will also be discussed over the duration of this course. After completing the course requirements, students may hold the opportunity to start their own travel agency, using the skills they have learned while in Travel Agent Geography.
By the end of this course, students should understand the different techniques and strategies that should be implemented when selling geographical destinations. Students should also be able to identify features of North American, South American, European, and Asian destinations. Knowledge of climate patterns, typical visitor types, and cultures for destination locations for around the world are also required. Lastly, students should understand the basic steps that must be taken if they wish to start their own travel business.
